She's The Business: Meet Ebony of Announce Divinely

"THIS WORLD IS FULL OF CREATIVE ENTREPRENEURS, BOSS LADIES, AND MOMPRENURS WHO'VE MADE THE DECISION TO DO WHAT THEY LOVE. I KNOW, BECAUSE I GET TO WORK WITH SOME OF THEM EVERYDAY. THIS SERIES OF MY DIARY IS ALL ABOUT SHEDDING A LIGHT ON THEM AND BRINGING SOME INSPIRATION TO GIRLBOSSES EVERYWHERE." - TL HAYDEN

Happy Follow Friday! I’ve featured Announce Divinely so many times here in the diary but never did a Q&A on the bosslady behind the brand. So, today’s She’s The Business” feature goes to Ebony. If you’ve been keeping up, you’d know she’s one of my favorite letterers and stationery designers. It’s only right that I give a little scoop on her since I’m always telling y’all to shop her goods. Read her interview below.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I am a self-taught graphic designer and owner of Announce Divinely Modern Party Goods and Stationery.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO IT?

I was always drawn to graphic design (no pun intended), but only embraced it as a hobby or side work for my college organizations. I finally had a "come to Jesus" moment after graduate school and decided to jump into designing stationery. This ultimately has grown to modern party goods and other happies.

HOW DO YOU STAY CREATIVE?

I have extrovert and introvert tendencies, so that kind of describes how I stay creative. Sometimes, I find inspiration from real life moments and celebrations. Other times, being by myself and having a whole introspective vibe recharges my creativity.

WAS THERE EVER A TIME YOU WANTED TO QUIT?

I've never wanted to quit, but there have been times where I felt anxious about different aspect of the business. Most times, it was because I was unfairly comparing myself to others, rather than focusing on what I was doing.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE ANOTHER YOUNG WOMAN WANTING TO START HER OWN BUSINESS?

Be intentional. One of my first prints was "She wakes up with a dream and a to-do list." Plan it then do it. Sometimes, we get so caught up with the vision of our business that we neglect to be proactive about taking care of our business.

HOW DO YOU STAY ORGANIZED TO KEEP YOUR BUSINESS FLOWING?

This is definitely still a learning point for me, but I try to create strong systems. I make sure I keep my workspace organized and return everything to its "home." I take advantage of business tools that keep up with data for me so that's one less thing to worry about.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE APP TO USE FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

Right now, I'm all about some Planoly. Social media is an important part of my business, but it can take up too much time. So I have a time each week where I plan and schedule postings and Planoly automatically posts them for me.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE QUOTE OR VERSE?

"Count it all joy when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness" (James 1:2-3).
